Green Day
Green Day
Green Day is the name of American band genuinely known as ‘punk rock’ band. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tree Cool are the members of this band who are vocalist and guitarist, bassist and backing vocalist and drummer respectively.

It was formed since 1987 by Armstrong (Earlier name was ‘Sweet Children’). On 17th October, Armstrong and Dirnt performed the 1st performance of this band.Next year, John Kiffmever joined with them who also used to manage the business as well as act as a drummer. Sean Hughes joined at the same time serving to play the bass but he left at that year. Following that year, they released extended play named ‘1000 Hours’ but before doing it they changed the band’s name ‘Sweet children’ into ‘Green Day’. There was a reason of changing name. Another band named ‘Sweet Baby’ used to perform at that time. So, to remove confusion, Larry Livermore (owner of “Lookout! Records) suggested them to do so.At the end of 1990, John Kiffmever left the band shortly. Then Tree Cool, drummer of Lookout!, was temporarily replaced. Later on Kiffmever was unable to continue to stay with them. As a result, Cool became the permanent drummer of Green Day.

In 1991, Lookout! Records released Green Day’s 1st ever album “1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours” adding songs from the two extended plays ‘Slappy’ and ‘1000 Hours’. The 2nd album “Kerplunk” brought a big success. About 50000 copies were sold only in United Srtates. The 3rd album “Dookie” also became the commercial success especially for the video songs named ‘Longview’, ‘Basket Case’ and ‘When I Come around’. This album won the “Grammy Award” for the best alternative album in 1995. Their 4th album “Insomniac” was released then containing several popular singles. Near about 2 million copies of this album were sold in U.S. It won the band award nominations for Favorite Artist, Favorite Hard Rock Artist, and Favorite Alternative Artist at the 1996 American Music Awards, and the video for "Walking Contradiction"  got the band a Grammy nomination for Best Video. In 2000, Green Day released their 6th album “Warning”. In order to support this album they made several tours in 2000 and 2001. They won the 2001 California Music Awards for the fantastic album ‘Warning’. Besides, for the best Rock Album (Warning), best Group, Male vocalist, Bassist, Drummer, songwriter and artist they won the entire individual award.

Green Day started to work on new materials in 2006. Although about 50 songs were written by Armstrong but all of them became flopped. In 2008, for their released album Foxboro Hot Tubs, they made a mini tour with a view to promote the record. They released another hit album named “21st Century Breakdown” in 2009 which became their best chart performance and also the #1 album in about 15 countries. Another most remarkable album “American Idiot: The Musical” was performed as stage version with the help of Michael Mayer, an award winning director. Following the year, this album was broadcast broadly. The band released the soundtrack of the musical. A game “The beatles: Rock Band” was made on June 8, featuring Green Day’s previous albums Dookie, American Idiots as well as 21st Century Breakdown. The 9th album “Awesome as Fuck” was in 2011 in the form of live CD/DVD and CD/Blu-Ray. Earlier on April, American idiot as film version was released. Michael Mayer directed the film.

Green Day has sold over 65 million records worldwide with 24.639 million in the US alone. The Band won five Grammy Awards: Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot, Record of the Year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", Best Rock Album for the second time for 21st century breakdown, and has received generally very positive reviews. Still Green Day is one of the best and popular Bands not only in U.S.A but also in the rest of the world.
